If you’re planning a holiday in Luxor, it really helps to know a bit more about weather you can expect during yout stay. Here’s a handy guide to explain more about Luxor weather and the climate in Egypt.

The climate in Egypt is commonly moderate. It is mostly hot or warm at days, and cool at nights.

In land an in the deserts, the temperature vary in a great extent especially in summer; they may range from 7 °C (44.6 °F) at night, to 52 °C (125.6 °F) during the day. While during winter temperatures in deserts are widely fluctuate. They can be as low as 0 °C (32 °F) at night, and as high as 18 °C (64.4 °F) during the day.

At days in the coastal regions, temperature ranges between an average of minimum 14 °C (57.2 °F) in winter and average of maximum 30 °C (86 °F) in summer.

Egypt receives less than 80 mm (3.15 in) of precipitation annually in most areas. Except in the coastal areas it reaches 200 mm.

Sun

In all seasons the sun is extremely strong. In the less oppressive months, especially when there is a breeze, it may not be apparent how strong the sun really is. A high factor sun block is recommended all year round. It is a good idea to bring sun creams up to SPF50 (factor 50) and special sun creams for children.

Rain

Some say that it never rains in Luxor. Local people tell us that it rains most years, but just once. Even then the rain is fairly brief and it dries out again very quickly. The rainfall can be heavy but it is usually not enough to measure. The official ‘average weather’ charts show no measured rainfall in any month.

Temperature

There is some variation in temperature through the year. July and August are the hottest and unbearable for some. English winter months, December to February, are the least oppressive and can even get chilly at night. March and November would suit most people best.
